KALKITECH UNVEILS NEW SYNC 2000 SECURE SUBSTATION GATEWAY PLATFORM

Kalkitech December 4, 2018

Incorporates Field Proven Technology Ideal for Sub-Transmission and Medium-Voltage Substations

Bangalore, India – December 4, 2018 – Kalkitech, a global leader in solutions that simplify field data collection, protocol translation, and IT-OT transformation for utilities, announced availability of a compact and secure substation gateway that enables utilities to securely collect data from substation IEDs. The new SYNC 2000 combines field-proven protocol translation support for over forty industry standard and proprietary protocols and other applications plus integrates multi-layered cybersecurity features to create a security checkpoint protecting assets.

With the increased emphasis across the utility industry for strengthening physical and cybersecurity, the revitalized SYNC 2000 platform is a superior solution meeting NERC CIP v5 and IEEE 1686 guidelines. It acts as a sentry for communications with IEDs including secure collection of disturbance record/fault file collection, etc. Integrated cybersecurity features include a firewall, role-based access control, digital rights management, security event logs and data encryption. The ruggedized enclosure meets IEC 61850-3 compliance and offers EMI/EMC protection on all ports in addition to the power supply. The SYNC 2000 is first in this class of compact gateways to deliver support for IEC61850 ed2.0 client and server support which enables utilities to integrate IEC61850 devices/SCADA of any generation.

Additional features of the SYNC 2000 Secure Substation Gateway are support for fault file collection and local data storage, specifically addressing the needs of sub-transmission and medium-voltage substations.  With multiprotocol support including DLMS and IEC 61850, web HMI and an integrated logic engine, the new SYNC 2000 is an ideal choice as a grid controller for unmanned substations at industrial or utility sites.

Kalkitech has been shipping the SYNC 2000 family for more than 12 years and is renowned for its protocol technology and expertise across its products and services. In addition to communicating with any IED, the SYNC 2000 has the ability to streamline operations by converting fault record data from a proprietary format to an industry standard format such as COMTRADE before sending it to a data center for analysis. It supports industry standard protocols (including IEC 61850 ed2.0, IEC 60870-5-101/103/104, DLMS/COSEM and Modbus) as well as proprietary protocols (such as ABB SPA Bus and Alstom Courier).

The new SYNC 2000 Secure Substation Gateway is available for ordering and will begin shipping in the first quarter of 2019. Contact your local Kalkitech sales representative for more details visit our website for more information about this product.
